Well, hot dog, it’s been busy over here in the social media kitchen for the last month. Some of the recipes were planned, and a few other ones snuck their way into the kitchen (we’re looking at you, flu germs). So, what’s new in our cookbook lately that we want to share with you?
- Phoenix has a free community event, PHX Startup Week, and a phenomenal startup community! To say we felt welcomed is an understatement, and a big shout out goes to our friends at HopScratch for coordinating the event and adding us to the speaker lineup.
- We had a BLAST during our PHX Startup Week presentation about a topic near and dear to our hearts: “Startup Social Media for Real Life.” (Translation: Any business that’s strapped for time and resources.) But, we don’t just want it to end there—the info is free for you guys, too!
- Did we mention we can’t wait for PHX Startup Week to roll around again? Talk about free resources, fun and a very cool group of people. Bonus: We had the chance to meet with two industry mentors to talk about everything from business plans, to making money and our Midwest roots.
- Sometimes life happens—no matter what our to-do lists or startup goals say. (Repeating that mantra over and over!) In this case, it was an unexpected trip back to Wisconsin to be with family. Things we could count on: Midwest staples like baked beans, bacon and beer (and below-zero temps). Because, well, it’s the Midwest!
- Newsflash: Startups aren’t immune to the flu. So we got to practice what we preach in another favorite area: Taking care of ourselves and taking breaks—no matter what’s on our Trello boards!
- Speaking of Trello… Are you as in love with this organization tool as we are? Shout out to one of our Phoenix Startup Week mentors, Darren, for putting it on our radar. All of our one-off to-do lists and sticky notes have a new home, in one place, that’s shared. Success!
- More favorite things: Our real-life cooking skills are improving, thanks to our obsession with Tasty videos on social media AND a newfound love of Pinterest. Let’s file this one under “social media for positive”!
- Rounding out the list with some industry news: Instagram. Ch-ch-changes are coming our way, fellow small businesses. Check out more thoughts on this.
- And, the icing on the (funnel) cake: Our social media basics classes are up and running. And they’re free! Bonus: There are two formats available—by social media channel (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and in an accelerated version. Go try them, share them and let us know how it’s going!
So, keep plugging away on your social media, fellow small businesses, and startups! No matter what comes your way, we’re sometimes reminded (the hard way): “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” (Charles R. Swindoll)
Happy cooking!
