Starting a new business and not quite sure how to get the word out there? The world, especially the digital world, can be a scary place to shout your news. But, don’t overlook where you would normally start with any big announcement–your friends and family!
It’s okay to ask your family and friends to like (and maybe even pass along!) your Facebook page, to follow you on Twitter and Instagram, and to re-pin your Pinterest pins. If you’re following your passion and doing something you love, your friends and family are going to gladly support you digitally. They want to see you succeed and they’ll want to see what you’re up to. Bonus: Their version of digital “hugs” for your success equals more reach for your product.
But wait – there’s more – all of that digital love also benefits you by not only increasing your reach but also then unlocking some of your social media analytics. For example, on Facebook, your business’ fan page needs a minimum number of fans before Facebook will allow you to access the analytics. Why is this important? Because then you can start to see which channels your followers respond to and gravitate toward. That then plays into this digital love story by allowing you to fine-tune the best content your audience enjoys.
The moral of this little love triangle: All those nosy things that your friends and family want to see – whether it’s where you source your bracelets from, a behind the scenes look at a day in the life, or the top 10 types of cooking salt – everyone else wants to know them too! After all, who else can you count on, if you can’t count on your friends and family to follow you.
